Mr Ursell has been invited to be an independent referree for The Surrey Association for Visual Impairment (SAVI), www.surreywebsight.org.uk.

Mr Ursell is delighted to have been invited to become a reviewer for SAVI which is an extremely prestigious local organisation who Mr Ursell works with and has always been extremely impressed with their work.  Becoming an independent reviewer means that prior to making any submission to a Grant Making Trust, Mr Ursell is asked to review the Charity and make recommendations to the Trust as to SAVI’s propriety.

Mr Ursell gives well received lectures at the VIIIth State of the Art Refractive & Cataract Surgery Symposium held by The Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ in Hull.

This is a prestigious annual meeting where UK Ophthalmologists’ give lectures on the latest techniques in cataract and refractive surgery.  Mr Ursell gave two of the talks, on corneal measurements for cataract surgery and post-operative cystoid macular oedema.  These talks received the highest feed-back ratings of all the lectures, including international eminent professors.  Mr Ursell is absolutely delighted with the fact that his talks were well received and feels as though they have helped move forward the ophthalmic communities understanding of these problems with cataract surgery.

Mr Ursell was an invited lecturer to talk about cataract surgery complications at the teaching symposium held at The University Department of Ophthalmology in Auckland, New Zealand.  Mr Ursell was delighted to have been a guest lecturer at this teaching session and was able to teach New Zealand Ophthalmologists’ about the latest techniques in cataract surgery.

Mr Ursell becomes a Council member of UKISCRS.
This academic society is in the forefront of UK and world research and academic analysis of cataract and refractive surgery. Mr Ursell has been elected as a reflection of his contribution and skills to cataract surgery. The council advises on all aspects of UK cataract surgery and funs h society for the benefit f the members. It organises and runs the two major UK conferences on cataract and refractive surgery. Mr Ursell has been elected a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers and City of London in Janurary 2008.
Mr Ursell is delighted to be a Freeman of the worshipful company of Spectacle Makers. One of the oldest of the Guilds of London it still has relevance today. Mr Ursell said that I am delighted to be able to contribute and look forward to meeting other Freeman at the Companies events.

Mr Ursell wins award for presentation at ASCRS

Mr Ursell won 'Best paper of session' at the recent conference of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons in San Diego.  "I am delighted as it was totally unexpected.  It is a prestigious award and a reward for many years hard work" he said afterwards.  The presentation is called ' Prospective randomised trial of the surface cytology of three different single-piece acrylic intraocular lenses'.  It can be downloaded here.   Mr Ursell won the same award in 1996, 1997 and 1998.

Hydroview and Aquasense intraocular lenses.

These lenses have been noted to calcify following surgery and some have had to be replaced.  Mr Ursell has never used these lenses.  Click to see a letter sent to Patients  and GPs  regarding this.
